Throughout the centuries, Gabès has held a unique place in the history of Tunisia. The city, covering an area of 7,166 km², benefits from a strategic geographical position. Gabès is known for its diverse natural sites, iconic pomegranate and henna cultures, shrimp, its 80 km coastline, and golf. With an urbanisation rate of 70.24%, the city has initiated clusters, notably the Olive oil producers cluster.

With an impressive palm grove of 300,000 date palms and a vast agricultural area (597,288 ha), Gabès is known for its agricultural wealth, notably market gardening, pomegranates, fruit trees and dates. At the same time, the region presents a notable diversification of its industrial textile, encompassing the agri-food industries, ceramic and glass construction materials, chemicals, textiles and clothing.
Gabès has a solid infrastructure, demonstrating its commitment to sustainable development. In terms of land transport, Gabès has an extensive road network totaling 2,139 km, including 326 km of national roads, 126 km of regional roads, and 268 km of local roads. The diversity of numbered, paved, and unpaved roads facilitates connectivity throughout the region. The 135 km railway network enhances mobility, while the three sea harbours and airports contribute to comprehensive multimodal connectivity. In terms of telecommunications, the city benefits from modern services and extensive postal services.
Gabès is positioned as a major industrial hub with a solid infrastructure. The city is home to two existing industrial zones, notably the vast Gabès Industrial Zone spread over 828 hectares and the Manzel Lahbib Industrial Zone. In addition, two industrial zones are planned, the Bouchama Industrial Zone and the new Matmata Industrial Zone. These zones offer investment opportunities and promote the diversification of sectors, particularly in the areas of production, logistics and research.
The gem of southern Tunisia is known for the prosperity of its educational network, its well-established health sector, its commitment to professional training, and it’s undeniable tourist attraction.
● Gabès has a vast educational network with 164 primary schools, 193 nurseries and children’s clubs, 63 high schools and secondary colleges, a national engineering school, and 10 higher education institutions.
● The healthcare sector in Gabès is well developed, with a regional hospital, four local hospitals, 92 primary health centres, three clinics, and 17 analysis and radiology laboratories, spread between the public and private sectors. With a ratio of one doctor for every 1,204 inhabitants, healthcare accessibility is evident.
● The region also invests in vocational training, providing four public centres and 54 private centres. This diversity promotes the development of skills tailored to the needs of the job market, thus contributing to employability and economic growth.
● Gabès positions itself as a tourist destination with 19 hotels, 80 km of beaches, and two entertainment centres. The rich artisanal heritage, represented by 258 registered artisans and regional specialties such as Mergoum, basketry, and straw hats (midhalla), contributes to the cultural richness of the region.
Gabès emerges as a harmonious city, providing educational, healthcare, vocational training facilities, and diverse tourist experiences. This contributes to the quality of life of its inhabitants and strengthens Gabès’ position as an attractive hub in the region.
Agency for the Promotion of Industry and Innovation – APII
Established in 1972, APII is a public institution under the supervision of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mines. It is responsible for implementing government policy relating to the promotion of the industrial sector and innovation. The APII is the main point of contact for investors regarding the legal constitution of companies and the management of financial and fiscal benefits.

Agricultural Investment Promotion Agency – APIA
APIA is a public institution established in 1983, with the principal mission of promoting private investment in agriculture, fishing and associated services.
APIA services
● Granting financial and fiscal benefits established by the Investment Law No. 2016-71 to promoters of agricultural, fishing, and related services projects, as well as projects involving the primary processing of agricultural and fishing products.
● Identifying investment opportunities and project ideas to be promoted by Tunisian and foreign private operators, thereby contributing to the achievement of national objectives assigned to the agricultural sector.
● Assisting promoters in the preparation of their investment files and providing guidance during the implementation phase of their projects.
Agence Foncière Industrielle – AFI
The Industrial property Agency is a public organisation established in 1973 to strengthen the industrial network and contribute to the economic and social development of Tunisia.
